[2] The airport is served by six carriers providing direct connectivity to nine domestic and three international destinations.[12] In 1987, the airport underwent modernization and further expansion of the existing runway to enable handling of larger jet aircraft.The new terminal would be constructed in an area of 11,870 square feet (1,103 m2) with the total estimated cost of around ₹171.79 crore (US$20 million).[22] In December 2022, the central government announced plans for an investment of ₹20 billion (US$230 million) for the modernisation and expansion of the airport.It was announced that the works would commence once the land acquisition is complete and the expanded airport would be able to handle 15 million passengers per annum.
