Spiller Peak
[5] Spiller Peak is located 15 miles (24 km) northwest of the community of Durango on land managed by San Juan National Forest.[4] Precipitation runoff from the mountain's west slope drains to the Mancos River and the southeast slope drains to the La Plata River.Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises 3,900 feet (1,200 meters) above the La Plata River in 2.5 miles (4.0 km) and 1,700 feet (520 meters) above Owen Basin in one-half mile (0.8 km).[4] The mountain's toponym has been officially adopted by the United States Board on Geographic Names,[5] and was recorded in publications in 1906.[8] Due to its altitude, it receives precipitation all year, as snow in winter and as thunderstorms in summer, with a dry period in late spring.
