When Novi Sad became the center of the newly formed Danube Banovina in 1929, the population size of the city increased exponentially.Public transportation was on the rise, but with the outbreak of World War II, and the occupation, bus traffic was reduced.[4] The decision of the National Committee established the City transport company (Serbian: Градско саобраћајно предузеће, Gradsko saobraćajno preduzeće) on 3 August 1946.[4] As of January 2016, JGSP Novi Sad has 259 buses in its fleet operating in urban and suburban lines, with the average bus age of 13.5 years.[5] According to the list of registered buses for the calendar year of 2015, JGSP Novi Sad has the following bus brands in its fleet: Volvo, Ikarbus, Solaris, Irisbus and Neobus.
