History and Operations of Vero Insurance

Vero Insurance is an Australian general insurance brand and company with historical roots tracing back through various corporate predecessors and mergers in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Corporate History and Predecessors

The lineage of Vero Insurance involves multiple British and Australian insurance institutions established during the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1833, the UK-based Alliance Insurance established an office in Australia. Subsequent decades saw the arrival of other British firms, including Royal Insurance in Adelaide (1848), Sydney (1849), and Melbourne (1850), alongside the Sun Insurance Office and London Insurance in the 1860s.

Over the course of the 20th century, these entities underwent a series of consolidations. Alliance Insurance and Sun Insurance merged in 1959 to form Sun Alliance. In 1961, Royal Insurance acquired the London & Lancashire and Derwent & Tamar group. Sun Alliance subsequently merged with London Insurance in 1965. Further expansion occurred in 1985 when Sun Alliance acquired the Phoenix group.

In 1992, Royal Insurance and Sun Alliance merged internationally to become Royal & SunAlliance. The organization restructured its operations in Australia and New Zealand in 2003, adopting the name Promina Group, while the general insurance division was rebranded as Vero Insurance. Promina later merged with Suncorp in 2007.

Sponsorships and Operations

In later commercial operations, Vero Insurance engaged in sports sponsorships. From the 2013 season until the conclusion of the 2018 season, Vero served as a co-major sponsor of the Brisbane Lions Australian Football League team alongside National Storage.
