Dethos was selected by the Representative Assembly at Mavelikara to be consecrated as a bishop to assist Metropolitan.Dethos Kathanar was consecrated on 9 December 1898 at Puthenkavu church by Titus Mar Thoma Metropolitan with the assistance of Geevarghese Mar Koorilose V Metropolitan (Karumamkuzhi) of Malabar Independent Syrian Church.
