Telecommunications in Tajikistan
The spread of telecommunications services in Tajikistan – telephony, radio, television and internet – has not been as extensive as in many other countries. The conventional telephone system is in poor condition because it has received little investment in the post-Soviet era.In the early 2000s, the state telecommunications agency, Tajik Telecom, received international aid to upgrade the telephone system.Among several cellular networks, the Babilon Mobile Company, a US-Tajik joint venture, claimed to have 40 percent of the market in 2006.As of 2005, there were 19,500 internet users in Tajikistan, making it the 190th internet-connected country in the world at the time.
