Taldykorgan
Taldykorgan (Kazakh: Талдықорған, Taldyqorğan, pronounced [tɑɫˌdəqorˈʁɑn] ⓘ; Russian: Талдыкорган), formerly spelled Taldy-Kurgan until 1993, is the capital (called an administrative center) of Jetisu Region, Kazakhstan.The town was founded in the 19th century as the village of Gavrilovka and developed into the present city on the same site.During WWII, Taldykorgan also served as a temporary home for thousands of evacuees from the Soviet Union's western regions.Thousands of women and children from Southern Ukraine were able to evacuate by ship to Novorossiysk and travel inland by train to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.There are 27 public health facilities, a city cinema, a theatre, libraries, amusement parks, a stadium and sports complex and swimming pools.
