RAF Akeman Street
Royal Air Force Akeman Street or more simply RAF Akeman Street is a former Royal Air Force Relief Landing Ground located 2 miles (3.2 km) north east of Minster Lovell, Oxfordshire, England.The airfield was a Relief Landing Ground (RLG) for RAF Brize Norton, with building starting in 1939 and opening on 10 July 1940.[1] Active flying stopped on 15 August 1945, and the site was closed on 1 February 1947.2 Service Flying Training School RAF (2 SFTS)[2] from Brize Norton with Airspeed Oxford aircraft and then No.A German bombing raid on Brize Norton on 16 August 1940 forced the Advanced Training Squadron to move to Akeman Street.
