John McCarthy (Nebraska politician)

John Jay McCarthy (July 19, 1857 – March 30, 1943) was a Nebraska Republican politician.Born in Stoughton, Wisconsin, on July 19, 1857, he attended Albion Academy.In 1902, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth Congresses and served Nebraska's 3rd district from 1904 to 1908.[1][2] He ran in the 1906 primary and lost to John Frank Boyd.He continued with his law practice in Ponca, Nebraska,[3] not serving in any other elected office, though he was a delegate to the 1912 Republican National Convention.
