B.D from St Patrick's College, Dublin, Ireland, B.A Economics from Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, Diploma in Clinical Pastoral Education and Counseling, U.S.A Mor Gregorios Joseph (born 10 November 1960) is a Syriac Orthodox archbishop, who is currently serving as the Malankara Metropolitan of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India.[1][2][3] Following the death of Baselios Thomas I, he was unanimously elected as Catholicos of India, during the Regional Malankara Synod held on December 8, 2024.[4] He is set to be elevated on March 25, 2025 at St. Mary's Cathedral, Atchaneh, Lebanon in a service presided by Ignatius Aphrem II, where he will be given the name Baselios Joseph I.[5] Mor Gregorios Joseph was born as the youngest of four children to Srambikkal Pallithitta Geevarghese and Saramma in Perumpilly, Mulanthuruthy.On 16 January 1994, Joseph Ramban was consecrated Metropolitan by Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, the Prince Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, at Damascus, for the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church Cochin Diocese in Malankara.
