East Whittier (pronunciationⓘ) is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, California, United States.For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined this community as a census-designated place (CDP).The name was changed from East La Mirada in 2012, likely due to its precise location in relation to the city of Whittier.[3][4] The previous delineation of East Whittier CDP occurred during the 1960 census, when the area recorded a population of 19,884.[6] According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2), all land.According to the United States Census Bureau, East Whittier has a median household income of $68,110, with 5.1% of the population living below the federal poverty line.[31] The community is represented at the local government level by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn.[32] Police services are provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department station located in Norwalk.
