He was elected on the Nationalist Party Executive and Administrative Council in 1996, a post which he still holds today.During the legislature 2008-2013, he was Government Whip and PN Group Secretary and member of the Maltese Parliament House Business Committee.During this legislature he was the Opposition Spokesperson for energy and water management, a member of the Maltese Parliament House Business Committee and Petitions Committee, formed part of the Maltese Parliamentary Delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Vice President of EUCDW (European Union of Christian Democrat Workers) and a member of the Nationalist Party Executive and Administrative Council.[1] In January 2024, during a speech at the Parliament of Malta about the Sports Governance and Integrity Act, Agius called out the lack of accountability for corruption cases within Maltese football, stating that "in Malta, people know who is going to win before the game is even played, and it's almost sure who will win the league this year".[2][3] Agius's statements received criticism from the Malta Football Association, which considered some of his claims to be "nothing short of a slap in the face for all those athletes, volunteers, and most of all fans".
