Cyrus W. Davis

Davis, surveyor of the Portland customs district, and former Secretary of State under Governor Frederick W. Plaisted's administration, died today of pneumonia, which developed from an attack of pleurisy contracted at a meeting at Rockland a week ago, while speaking in behalf of the second Liberty Loan.After being engaged in the dry goods business in Biddeford, he moved to Waterville in 1880, and had since continued to reside there, though he had passed the winter months in Portland since his appointment as surveyor three years ago.He was for a score of years engaged in the investment business with offices in Boston and Waterville.
