All Saints' Church, Sherburn in Elmet

The church was constructed in the 12th century, from which period the nave and part of the north aisle date.It is known that there was an earlier church on the site, and the current building appears to reuse some large, Anglo-Saxon stones. The tower is supported by large diagonal buttresses, added in the Victorian period.Although the porch is largely the work of Salvin, it reuses 12th century material, including zigzag carvings. The 15th-century Janus Cross was moved from the ruins of the demolished St Mary and All Holy Angels Chapel, formerly in the churchyard, and it is now displayed in two parts.
