Sydney Elizabeth Towle (November 15, 1999 – August 5, 2026) was an American social media content creator who gained widespread recognition for documenting her experience with metastatic cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer.

Early Life and Education

Born on November 15, 1999, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Towle was the daughter of Elizabeth and Philip Towle and grew up alongside her brother, Austin. She spent her formative years in Hobe Sound, Florida, graduating from South Fork High School in 2018. She subsequently attended Dartmouth College, where she focused her studies on government and environmental studies.

Social Media Career and Illness

Towle built a substantial following on TikTok during her sophomore year at college, eventually accumulating hundreds of thousands of followers. In 2023, she experienced an abdominal bulge that developed into pain, leading to a diagnosis of late-stage cholangiocarcinoma in August 2023. Following her diagnosis, she relocated to New York City to receive treatment closer to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and transitioned her online platform into a chronicle of her life with advanced cancer.

As her platform grew past 750,000 followers, Towle faced both widespread support and online harassment from critics who questioned the authenticity of her illness. Final Months and Death

In mid-2026, Towle's condition progressed significantly as tumors spread to her lungs and peritoneum. After modeling in Miami Swim Week in May 2026 with the intent of encouraging body positivity and embracing scars, she announced in June that she could no longer live independently and moved in with her mother. On August 4, 2026, her brother announced that she had entered hospice care. Towle died the following day, on August 5, 2026, at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, at the age of 26.
