Goran Obradović (Serbian Cyrillic: Горан Обрадовић, born 29 January 1971) is a Serbian athletic coach associated with the Athletic Club Vojvodina in Novi Sad. He also serves as the president of the board of experts at the Athletic Federation of Serbia.
Early Life and Athletic Career
Obradović began his involvement in athletics in 1982 at Athletic Club Vojvodina. Specializing in the high jump, he achieved national recognition as the national vice-champion in 1991 and 1992. He pursued formal education in sports science, studying at the University of Physical Culture in Novi Sad and the Sports Academy in Belgrade.
Coaching Career
Transitioning to coaching at the age of 24, Obradović initially worked with jumping athletes, including high jumpers Stevan Zorić and Đorđe Niketić, long jumper Marko Milinkov, and pole vaulter Feđa Kamasi. In 2005, alongside Feđa Kamasi, he established the first multi-event team in Serbia, which trained several notable decathletes such as Mihail Dudaš, Igor Šarčević, Slobodan Matijević, Dino Dodig, and Darko Pešić. Some members of this multi-event group also competed in bobsleigh, qualifying for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Obradović achieved his most prominent success working with long jumper Ivana Španović. Beginning their partnership in 2013, the pair secured numerous international medals, including a bronze at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow—representing a historic world championship medal for Serbian athletics—and a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. They also won the gold medal at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, alongside multiple titles in subsequent years such as the 2022 World Indoor Championship, European Championship, and Diamond League Trophy.
Awards and Recognition
Throughout his career, Obradović has received numerous accolades for sports coaching, including the Majska nagrada, the highest national sports award in Serbia, and the Jovan Mikić Spartak award from the Vojvodina province. He has also been named Athletic Coach of the Year on multiple occasions by national and municipal athletic authorities.
